Carnations are often overlooked, but I love them in mass. They are the perfect flower for this lovely project. If you are looking for a last minute centerpiece for your Valentine’s celebration, look no further. Oh, did I mention this arrangement is constructed in a heart shaped candy box? Yes! Here’s how I put it all together.
First, you’ll need a heart shaped chocolate box. My box cost $5 and had 16 delicious pieces of chocolate in it. I’m telling you all of this to give you an indication of it’s size.
First, stand a block of floral foam upright and cut it into three slices.
Lay all three pieces down on a flat surface and stack them. Take the bottom half on your heart shaped box and push it down into the floral foam.
Remove the floral foam pieces and soak them in water.
While the foam is soaking, cut a heart slightly larger than the inside of your box out of a heavy duty trash bag. I used the heart shaped liner provided in the chocolate box as guide.
Use a hot glue gun to attach the liner. I really need a new glue gun. Look at that filthy thing!
Finally, the fun part! Insert the wet foam back into the box and begin placing your carnations.
Snap them just below the head and place each one upright in the foam.
Follow the shape of your box and then fill in the center. My box took 25 carnations.
Once full, you’ll notice a gap between the flowers and the box.
I tucked in crinkled paper bits to camouflage this area. Washi tape or some beautiful ribbon could also be used to hide this as well.
I don’t know about you, but I’m in love with it!
