Hello, Gators! Happy August. Wowzers, summer seems to be flying by. Sorry I missed a July posting here, but hopefully you are following along with all things Slumbering Alligator over on my Facebook and Instagram accounts. I’m always up to something! I am so excited to be sharing this Shibori tablecloth I made using Plaid Crafts Fabric Creations Soft Fabric Ink. I’m absolutely in love with how it turned out. Although it might look difficult, it was incredibly easy to make.
I can’t wait to throw a dinner party and show off my new tablecloth. Using Fabric Creations Soft Fabric Ink made this project a breeze. Honestly, I want to use it to make even more DIY Shibori items. Like, a matching outfit!

Ok, so first things first. What the heck is Shibori? Shibori is a Japanese dyeing technique for embellishing textiles that involves shaping and securing cloth in variety of ways. Typically Shibori is done using indigo, so I chose Fabric Creations Soft Fabric Ink in Navy. If blue isn’t your cup of tea, Fabric Creations Soft Fabric Inks come in a multitude of colors. These inks are great for a variety of textile projects including painting, stamping and stenciling. Plus, surfaces decorated with Fabric Creations Soft Fabric Inks are machine washable. Hip, hip, hooray!
For my tablecloth, I purchased a 6ft x 9ft canvas drop cloth from the hardware store for around $12. I grabbed a bag of rubber bands, a squeeze bottle, rubber gloves and a dish pan from the dollar store. And of course, you’ll also need 3 bottles of Fabric Creations Soft Fabric Ink in Navy. Fabric Creations Soft Fabric Inks can be purchased at your local craft store.
Next, fold the bottom portion of the fabric up into a triangle.
Tuck it under itself to create another triangle. Then, back over to make another triangle. Repeat this folding process until you reach the end.
