My friend asked me to make him a key holder. He wanted something that would fit in the space between his counter and cabinets in his kitchen. We’re both so pleased with how it turned out!

I had a pallet plaque leftover from my Marble Suncatcher project that was the perfect size for this project. Just like with my Marble Suncatcher, the first thing I did was haphazardly stain it using a dark wood stain.

My friends over at Plaid sent me this Martha Stewart Crafts patterned roller set. It was the perfect tool to add a little more detail to my key holder. I absolutely love this roller! It is so fun to work with. There are multiple patterned rollers to choose from. I used the Birds and Branches roller.

I applied FolkArt Outdoor Acrylic Paint in Sandy Beach to my roller and begin rolling over my pallet plaque following the instructions on the package. I had some Sandy Beach leftover from my Patio Set Makeover. I wanted a subtle paint color for this project, so it worked out perfectly.

Isn’t it great?! So many projects were coming to mind when using this roller!

For the key holders themselves, I painted the top portion of 5 clothespins in colors that went well with my friends kitchen and adhered them with an industrial strength adhesive. Finally, I added two hooks on the back for easy hanging.

Stylish and functional! My favorite kind of project.

This holder would also be great for incoming mail or to display photos! Happy crafting!

  1. Love the key holder! If you wanted, you could also label the clips holding the keys. Great job!
