I must admit, this project wasn’t initially on my Halloween to-do list, but when I saw this wooden skull plaque in the dollar spot at Target for $3, I knew I had to do something with him. Target had a few other shapes too. I saw a pumpkin and a cat as well.  Luckily, I had a few of my favorite Plaid Crafts paints on hand from previous projects. So, this guy came together in no time!

First, I painted the sides, sockets and inside the vertical lines of the skull with FolkArt Brushed Metal Dark Gray acrylic paint. It’s not easy to stay in the small indented lines, but try your best. You’ll end up having to do less coats of the other colors that way.

I used FolkArt Titanium WhitePure Orange, and Apple Barrel Bright Yellow acrylic paints on his face to resemble candy corn.

Then, I applied a portion of one of the stencils off of the Tavalera Tile stencil sheet I had in my craft arsenal in various spots on his face.

The Brushed Metal Dark Gray paint was perfect for this. I really think the stencil added a lovely touch to this project.

Finally, I attached various ribbons, a ribbon hanger and two silly eyes I picked up from the dollar store to the skull using an industrial strength adhesive.

I really think he turned out wonderful! If you think so too, please SHARE this posting. Happy Haunting!
