I’m making Paper Medallion Ornaments for one of the Christmas trees I’m designing this year. They are relatively simply to construct and provide a lot of look for little buck. If you are designing a Christmas tree on a budget, I highly recommend constructing these ornaments.
This isn’t the first time I’ve made Paper Medallion Ornaments for a project. Last year, they looked gorgeous adorning my Christmas tree.
Sauce and Bread Kitchen (sauceandbread.com) loved the ones I created for them last year too for their all paper holiday installation.
- Packet of 6in by 6in Card Stock Paper (There are a ton of colors/patterns to choose from at Michaels)
- Ruler
- Writing Utensil
- Hot Glue Gun/Sticks
- Miniature Holiday Ornaments
First, select four sheets (2 pairs) of paper from your packet and flip them over. Then, measure a 1/2 inch up from the bottom of each of the four sheets. Use your writing utensil to mark off your measurement.
Working one sheet at a time and using your line as a guide, make an accordion fold. Fold the first section towards the backside of your page.
Continue accordion folding your page until the entire sheet is folded.
Now, fold the sheet in half lengthwise.
Run a small strip of hot glue down the center of your folded sheet and press together. Excuse my ugly glue gun! I bought a “prettier” one to picture in these tutorials, but it just doesn’t work as good as this baby does!
It should look like this once glued.
Repeat the above steps on the three remaining sheets. Once completed, you should have four small fans like the ones pictured above.
Now its time to attach the four pieces together to form the ornament. Run a line of hot glue down the side of one of your fans and attach it to the side of another fan.
Continue this process until all the fans are connected. Be sure to alternate your pattern.
